What TraceIt Collects

TraceIt only records browsing activity during an active recording session that the user explicitly starts.

During recording, TraceIt may store:

• Tab URLs and page titles
• Search queries parsed from supported search pages
• Time spent on tracked pages
• Notes entered by the user
• Session metadata needed to generate reports

What TraceIt Does Not Collect

TraceIt does not:

• Send browsing data to an external server
• Record browsing outside an active session
• Collect passwords, form input, or page content by default
• Track incognito sessions unless the browser is explicitly configured to allow it
• Use third-party analytics or ad trackers

Where Data Is Stored

TraceIt stores session data locally using chrome.storage.local.

Data stays on the device unless the user chooses to export it.

Permissions

Permission	Purpose
tabs	Read tab URLs and titles during recording
webNavigation	Detect completed navigations while a session is active
storage	Save sessions and settings locally
sidePanel	Display generated reports in the side panel
alarms	Auto-save active sessions periodically

Data Retention

• Saved sessions remain in local storage until the user deletes them.
• Clearing browser extension data or uninstalling TraceIt removes stored data from the browser profile.
